  • Origin: Native to South America, primarily found in the Amazon Basin and its tributaries, living in fast-flowing, oxygen-rich waters.
  • Popularity: Highly valued among aquarists for its algae-eating abilities, peaceful temperament, and unique facial bristles, making it one of the most popular Pleco species for community aquariums.

🎨 Appearance

  • Color: Typically mottled brown, black, or gray, sometimes with lighter spots or patterns depending on the variant (albino, super red, or longfin types exist).
  • Structure:
    • Flattened body with a sucker mouth designed for clinging to surfaces and scraping algae.
    • Males feature prominent bushy tentacle-like growths on their snout (females have smaller or none).
    • Armored plates cover the body for protection.
  • Size: Grows to about 4–6 inches (10–15 cm).
  • Lifespan: 5–8 years, sometimes longer with excellent care.
