  • Popularity: Very popular among freshwater hobbyists for their bold green coloration, active schooling behavior, and affordability.

  • Body Color: Metallic green body with darker vertical bands (less visible than standard tiger barbs).
  • Distinctive Features:
    • Compact, deep-bodied shape.
    • Fins often tipped with red or orange hues.
  • Size: Small — typically 2–3 inches (5–7.5 cm).
  • Lifespan: 5–7 years with good care.

🏡 Tank Requirements

  • Tank Size: Minimum 20 gallons (best kept in schools of 6+ to reduce aggression).
  • Water Parameters:
    • Temperature: 72–79°F (22–26°C)
    • pH: 6.0–7.5
    • Water Hardness: Soft to moderately hard.
  • Habitat Setup:
    • Provide plenty of swimming space.
    • Use plants and driftwood for cover.
    • Keep in groups to minimize fin-nipping behavior.
    • Compatible with other active fish but avoid slow long-finned tank mates (like bettas or angelfish).
