- Origin: Native to brackish and freshwater habitats across the southern United States, Mexico, and Central America, especially around coastal streams and estuaries. The Harlequin Sailfin Molly is a selectively bred variant prized for its vivid, mottled pattern and flowing dorsal fin.
- Popularity: Admired for its color diversity, peaceful temperament, and hardy nature, making it ideal for community tanks and beginner aquarists alike.
🎨 Appearance
- Color: Distinct mottled pattern of orange, black, silver, and gold, resembling a harlequin’s costume. Each fish displays a unique color mix.
- Structure:
- Males boast a large, sail-like dorsal fin and more intense coloration.
- Females are slightly larger-bodied but with smaller fins and subtler hues.
- Graceful, elongated body with a fan-shaped tail.
- Size:
- Males: Up to 4 inches (10 cm)
- Females: Up to 5 inches (12–13 cm)
- Lifespan: 3–5 years with good care and water quality.
